Manager of Outreach & Communications- CTPS, Boston

The Central Transportation Planning Staff (CTPS) of the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) seeks a Manager of Outreach and Communications with the vision and experience to lead the agency’s outreach and communications strategy. This is a new position that will lead a team that includes the Public Outreach Coordinator and Communications Associate. This team is committed to improving the visibility, transparency, and impact of the work carried out by CTPS and the Boston Region MPO and engaging diverse members of the public in transportation planning and associated decision-making processes. The Boston Region MPO is a regional body responsible for allocating federal money to transportation projects with the goal of making the transportation system more robust, equitable, resilient, and multimodal, thereby improving the quality of life and access to opportunity for the people who live and work in the 97 cities and towns in the Boston region.
 
CTPS is in the first year of implementing a five-year strategic plan. Outreach and communication needs are central to the core values and goals identified in the plan. The Manager of Outreach and Communications will play an important role in strategic plan actions targeted for the first year, including in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion. In the long-term, the Manager of Outreach and Communications will be leading the development of a comprehensive communications and outreach strategy consistent with the strategic plan. 

Qualifications
While the following sections describe required and desirable qualifications, CTPS is open to candidates who believe that their particular experience and skills fulfill the requirements. The ideal candidate would be passionate about engaging with people and groups with diverse backgrounds about topics deeply relevant to their daily lives; care about the impacts of historic inequities on the quality of life for vulnerable communities; and be committed to public service and civic engagement. The candidate would have strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral communications skills; experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating communications and outreach plans and programs; and direct experience working with individuals in an outreach context.

Preferred qualifications include the following:

Experience with traditional media, various social-networking tools, website development, and content management
At least three years of experience in public outreach and/or communications, with at least one year of experience managing at least one staff person
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, HTML, and Adobe Creative Suite applications
Experience working in a transportation field or with an MPO or public sector agency
Written or spoken fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Portuguese, or other non-English language commonly spoken in the Boston region

This is a full-time position and the starting salary range is $73,200–$87,800 annually, contingent upon qualifications and experience.
